A synopsis of  Poppy’s Periwinkles

(Adventure for 9-12)

Alice Clark’s greatest wish is to talk to her family about the death of her sister, Poppy. Each summer, she is sent to Trevellen to stay with her grandparents. She secretly visits the beach where she last saw Poppy alive and still collects shells, but no one wants to talk about what happened the day Poppy died.

This summer however, things are already different. Phoebe has moved away and an annoying boy called Jasper has moved in next door to Alice’s grandparents’. He persuades quiet, timid Alice to clear out an old air raid shelter in his garden. Much to Alice’s horror, they find a gun. She wants to put it back and enjoy her summer, sketching and collecting Poppy’s favourite shells, but Jasper has other ideas.
